Maayon starring Sibiraj is about an archaeological team headed by a shrewd archaeologist who sells the archaeological artefacts to the International Antiquities Trafficking Ring, and he is assigned to research an ancient temple that has lots of hidden mysteries. The team go on a quest to unveil the hidden treasure in the temple which is woven by mystery and science in the mythological folklore.
Maayon is interesting with its title and impressed us with the eye-capturing trailer but that’s just what it did, the movie hardly makes any impact. Be it the making or the storyline, the movie is predictable and there are places where they don’t logically connect. The weaklings in the movie are the major issue in the overall show. Though there are places where the CGI impresses us, there are also places where we feel that a scene is long and unnecessary. In a nutshell, the story looks good, but the movie fails to convince the viewers.
Positives:
1. Sibiraj as usual gave a natural performance but his screen time was very limited.
2. The supporting cast’s performance gave a few brownie points to the movie, but the film is still half sunk.
3. CGI looks good, and the team managed to give their best.
4. Music by Ilaiyaraaja gels well with the mood of this mythological folklore.
5. The twist and little surprise towards the end is good.
Negatives:
1. A lot of loopholes here and there, so the screenplay takes a huge hit.
2. Weak Antagonist, all shows but no value.
Sibiraj as usual gave a natural performance but his screen time was very limited.
