Movie Details

Prince directed by Anudeep is a romantic comedy movie. The movie is all about Anbu (Sivakarthikeyan), a Social teacher in a fictional village near Pondicherry who falls in love with a newly recruited English teacher Jessica (Maria Riaboshapka). Anbu’s father Ulaganathan played by Sathyaraj is an idealist who makes his son Anbu to write a letter as a promise to marry a girl outside of his religion and community. When his father finds out that his son is in love with a foreigner in the French colony and he assumes that she is from France and is very happy about his Son’s choice. Soon his father learns that she is British and is very shocked as his own father fought against the British and died during the freedom struggle. So he disapproves of his relationship as he doesn’t want someone from that country to be his daughter-in-law. Will his father accept his love and will they finally get the approval of their parents forms the crux of this film?

Performance
1. As usual Sivakarthikeyan gave his best and looked charming. His screen presence has saved that movie to an extent.
2. Debutant Maria plays the female lead and she does her part well.
3. Sathyaraj is good and his timely comedy evokes laughter in a few places. Sivakarthikeyan and Sathyaraj’s portion works out well. It’s a treat to watch them on screen together.
4. Andraj’s small cameo is lit. The comedy portion involving him evokes laughter.
5. Premji Amaran gets to play a comedy villain and delivers a neat performance.

Plus
1. There are a lot of one-liners and wordplays that have worked out to an extent.
2. Sivakarthikeyan, Maria, and Sathyaraj’s portions are good.
2. The supporting cast did a good job.
3. Cinematography is excellent.
4. Thaman’s songs are good, especially Bimbilikki Pilapi and Jessica.

Minus
1. There is no serious story, it’s just some silly dialogue and comedy.
2. Many out-of-context dialogues which could have been avoided.
3. Editing could have been better.
4. This comedy genre could have been executed in a better way.
5. Characters are written poorly.

A decent comedy entertainer who works in parts. Watch out for Sivakarthikeyan’s dance moves and one-liners.
