Rocketry – The Nambi Effect tells us the story of the life of ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was falsely accused of espionage and for leaking important secrets to Pakistan. The story begins with Nambi and his family getting ready for a wedding. Here is where everything turns haywire. Nambi gets arrested and his entire family including his wife, daughter, son, and son-in-law gets humiliated and even thrashed in the public. Nambi has been accused of espionage and because of this, not just him, but the entire family goes through mental trauma. What happens next forms the rest of the story which is unfolded in the flashback as Nambi Narayan narrates his story in the interview with Suriya.
Performance
1. R. Madhavan as Dr. Nambi Narayanan gives his best. He has put his heart and soul into the character he played.
2. Simran as Meena Nambi does a good job. She gets good scope in the second half.
3. Sam Mohan as Unni shines. He plays an important role in this movie.
4. Kartik Kumar as CBI officer PM Nair does a brief role, but he leaves a mark.
5. Suriya’s special appearance is definitely a crowd puller.
Plus
1. Solid performance of the cast is the major plus.
2. Engaging Second half – Hardship faced by Nambi Narayanan and the emotions are well captured.
3. Goosebump moment in the Pre-Interval block.
4. Interrogation Scenes are excellent.
5. Simple and neat dialogues.
6. Cinematography is good.
7. Sam CS’s background score elevates a few scenes.
8. Showing real Nambi Narayanan in the climax portion brings a lot of emotion.
Minus
1. Technical terms used in the first half might be difficult for the common man to decipher.
2. Writing could have been crispier.
3. VFX doesn’t impress us much.
4. Editing could have been sharper.
