Kalaga Thalaivan roughly translated in English as Rebel Leader is a corporate espionage thriller. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, produced and enacted by Udhayanidhi Stalin speaks loud about the privatization of the public sector and its harmful effect on the common man.
Nidhi Agarwal, Aarav, and Kalaiyarasan play pivotal roles in the movie which is more of a cat-and-mouse game.
The movie revolves around Thiru ( Udhayanidhi) who works in the country’s biggest automobile firm called Vajrah. The company plans lorries that can cut fuel consumption by 50%. But sadly it tries to hide the fact that pollution due to vehicular emission will be more and dangerous. Steps in Thiru, who exposes all crimes of the company hiding his original identity. A baffled company hires Arjun (Arav) and his team to stop the leak of secret information about the company.
Arjun, an ex-commando is ruthless. He goes to any extreme to accomplish the mission. Who wins the battle -Thiru or Arjun forms the crux. Udhaya plays a passive youngster. High on aspiration but less shown out. Docile too. But Udhaya fits ut well. Aarav steaks the show as Arjun. He carries himself in the role. Kalaiyarasan as a crusader is good to watch. Nidhi Agarwal has a meaty role to play.
Magizh has struck his script all through. No signs of a compromise in the form of comedy or punch lines. However, the corporate funding to political parties spoken in the film lacks details. Music by Aroll Corell is okay while Srikanth Deva’s BGM is good. Chill Raj’s lens captures chase scenes well.
The first half promises a new premise but the latter part becomes regular commercial fare. Lofty ideals but could have spoken little elaborately.
